Welcome to Special Olympics Massachusetts 2010 Golf-A-Thon
Golfer Tyler Lagasse, fresh off his Silver Medal (79, 78, 75) at the Special Olympics (SO) National Games, and Gold Medal at the Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) Games (85), has decided to give back this year. Tyler is participating and raising funds at the 2010 SOMA Golf-a-Thon. As you may have seen in recent features on Golf Channel’s “Golf in America”, participation in golf and Special Olympics programs has helped Tyler grow tremendously as a person and a golfer. Tyler has always supported the Special Olympics movement through his public speeches as well as his sportsmanship and generous spirit. This year, he is going even further to raise critical funds for the organization. Welcome to the 4th Annual Special Olympics Massachusetts Golf-A-Thon, presented by ITG and Collins Stewart!
We kick off this year’s event with a welcoming reception on Sunday September 26th, at the Royal Plaza Hotel, Marlborough.
We will be playing 4 rounds of continuous golf, drop-out scramble format, over 2 award winning championship courses at Stow Acres Golf Club. Tee-off will be at 7am, with a finish time of 5pm, followed by "The Tyler Lagasse Golf Challenge" and awards banquet!
As always, there will be surprises throughout the day, including the opportunity for teams to add a 5th man, one of our Special Olympic golf champions, at different holes! Every Par 3 hole will have a hole-in-one prize and nearest the pin prize!
Back in 2010! At 5pm on Monday the 27th, there will be "The Tyler Lagasse Golf Challenge". The challenge will consist of playing the 18th on the South Course (handicaps will be taken into account). If there is a tie after completing the 18th, it will be decided by various chipping and putting events until we have a Champion (handicaps will "NOT" be used). There will be a trophy for the Champion and a 1/3rd of the total challenge entrance fee. The entrance fee is $200 per challenger paid on the day, but you can sign up NOW by just emailing . There will also be the opportunity to enter the 50/50 golf challenge raffle where for $10 you can buy a ticket supporting a particular player and if they win you will go into the draw with "only" the people who also selected that player. This added some great fun last year and will be even more fun this year!
Spots are filling up quickly, and we are only taking 18 foursomes for this event. Each team’s minimum sponsorship is $4000 ($1000 per golfer). Golfers may either contribute themselves or pledge to raise the money through pledges, using this website.
